Meet Our Acupuncturist: Jae Woong Lee, Dipl.OM, L.Ac
Our hands-on approach to a pain-free life starts with chiropractic care, but it doesn't end there! Helping you return to your life pain-free is our team's mission. Get Adjusted Chiropractic is determined to help you revolutionize your healing process. That is why we've introduced acupuncture to our practice. Our acupuncturist, Jae Woong Lee, Dipl.OM, L.A, is joining our team to give our patients a holistic approach to your health care.
Dr. Justin Lewis and our team spoke to Jae Woong Lee about his 8-year career in acupuncture medicine.
How did you first get into acupuncture? During my high school years, I had a chronic herniated disc on my lower back. I tried all the possible treatments I could, but none of my options worked. I went to an acupuncture clinic as a final resort and a miracle happened there. My back no longer hurt! From then on, I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in acupuncture.
Why should someone choose acupuncture?> Acupuncture is a natural and traditional Eastern medicine that has been practiced for thousands of years. It is safe with no side effects — you can see the effects immediately.
What should a new patient know before their first acupuncture appointment? Acupuncture is a natural and safe method of treatment. The shape of the needle is round at the end, so it does not hurt as much as most people assume. Acupuncture also moves your Qi (or energy) and helps your physical and mental conditions return to a balance. You should also eat before you come in for a round of acupuncture because the energy you get from your caloric intake can deplete during the process!
Please explain your process of a typical session. I begin all sessions by listening to the patient's complaints from their point of view. They tell me where they have pain and when it started, as well as when and which motions of activity make the pain worse or better. I then try to locate the cause of the pain, and which meridian or organ is related to that pain. This helps me get the best diagnosis. I choose acupoints that will relieve the client's pain or stress. Throughout the session, I will always check in with the patient to see if they feel any relief. I finish my time with the patient by sharing any advice on activities they should refrain from or recommend any food they need to avoid to increase the effects of acupuncture.
Will any changes be seen immediately? Absolutely! When the needle is on the accurate point, the patient typically feels better immediately.
How often should a patient come in for treatment to experience lasting benefits? The effect of acupuncture lasts for two or three days, so the patient is recommended to come into the office twice a week if they are experiencing intense pain.
Why should someone pair acupuncture with their chiropractic treatment? Acupuncture works on the meridian while controlling Qi (energy) and blood. When you combine acupuncture with chiropractic treatment, we can holistically treat your skeletal and muscular systems so you can live a pain-free life.
What services do you offer? I offer acupuncture, cupping, moxa, and tuina (acupressure massage). My specialties are pain control for the lower back, neck, and shoulder; I focus on relieving pain stemming from migraines, insomnia, seasonal allergies, infertility, gastrointestinal issues, PMS, and other women's diseases.
